Please meet Judy Barnicle, high school Spanish teacher and grandmother of 5 (although you can’t tell from her picture that she is a grandma nor from her energy–she just returned from a 10 day trip to Spain with 16 students! and was babysitting her 3 year old grandson while we were “chatting”) In addition to teaching, Judy is taking classes toward a Master’s degree in education professional development with a certificate in e-learning/teaching.
Currently she teaches one of her Spanish classes using Study Wiz, a simplified CMS similar to D2L. Because she works in a rural area of WI (Richland Center) not all of her students have access to computers–a challenge many teachers face even today when technology is seemingly ubiquitous.
This summer, Judy will be training a few of her colleagues on using SMARTboards and Web 2.0 tools and is eager to learn more about technologies she can use herself or share with others.
One of the things that drew my attention to Judy on our classlist is her eclectic taste in music (Bon Jovi, Nickelback, Zeppelin, The Beatles, Crosby Stills Nash, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa), our similar movie faves (the Bourne Identity is one of those movies I can’t see enough!), and our common hobbies (reading and puzzles).
I look forward to learning more about Judy as the class goes on and hope this intro will encourage you engage this inspirational woman!
Ann OH
in Ann Arbor, MI
I would like to introduce you all to Ann O’Harris. Ann is a librarian in Ann Arbor, Michigan and previoiusly taught English. This year she was able to return to the classroom to teach an acting class. How great is that for those students! As with many of today librarians, Ann is tech-savvy and is not only helping her students, but also provides training to her colleagues. She has introduced them to Moodle and assists them in setting up their classes. She is working on certification in e-learning/teaching by taking classes during the summers. On the personal side, Ann has three sons 16-27 and she likes the Borne movies and any of the Coen brothers stuff. We had a great chat and look forward to continuing it during the course. Make sure you meet Ann and know that we have a talented librarian in our midst!!!
